My first thought: I don't love that you now know how much I weigh. But immediately my second thought is: you need to see how much I weigh so that you can forever understand that the SCALE IS NOT THE WHOLE TRUTH!
When you are trying to "diet," "lose weight," "lean out" .... on your own -- the scale is a tool that can let you know how you're doing... kinda. It lets you know that you have lost pounds. What it doesn't tell you is -- from where are the pounds coming? Muscle? Fat? Water? For me, I have decided to be done with just getting weight off. In the past I've been paleo, vegan, intermittent fasting, low-carb, ketogenic and reset my metabolic whatever. I've always had success and I've ALWAYS gained the weight back. Once I returned to regular life and tried to settle into normal eating patterns, I would slowly put weight back on until I was at my wits end again and signed up for another challenge. What do challenges give me? A set of rules for short periods of time and the results will be less body fat. What about for the rest of my life? What am I supposed to do when my kid has a birthday? NEVER have cake again? I think not. These things I've tried offer short term solutions but they are not practical. And some may argue that they impair your hormone levels and your body's ability to properly take care of itself.
I needed to know how to take care of my body and properly fuel it for daily activities and the occasional workout. I started looking into what nutrition says about health. It was enough to convince me to find someone smarter than myself to coach me through the next steps. And that's just what I did.
I contacted my coach and filled out a questionnaire that outlined my daily activity and any goals I had for this journey. My coach gave me an individualized plan and information on how to make it all work. I track what I eat and enter it in macronutrient counts onto a shared chart. We track how my energy level is feeling, how I'm sleeping what my strength is and where my hunger is. Because I'm an open book I tend to give her way more info than for what she is looking. :) I also send her weekly waist and hip measurements along with weekly photos. TAKE PHOTOS!! It is WAY better than a scale!! Measurements and photos really can tell the story of your weight loss better than the scale!
I can't answer for you whether nutrition coaching is necessary in order for you to be successful. I can tell you that they listen and learn about you. They meet you where you are on your health and wellness journey. They hear where you want to go on this journey and help you organize your goals Nutrition coaches lay out your individualized plan and take all the guess work and potential 'wrong turns' off of your path. The coaches are there for you during the every day bumps-in-the-road that life hands you -- and they can help you overcome the bumps with much needed support, encouragement and solid nutrition tools.
